The Beast from the Sea  – The Antichrist

Revelation 13:1-10

(1)  Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. (2)  Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. (3)  And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. (4)  So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?"

(5)  And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months. (6)  Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. (7)  It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. (8)  All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

(9)  If anyone has an ear, let him hear. (10)  He who leads into captivity shall go into captivity; he who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

Revelation 13:1-10, 14

The 4th Beast
Revelation 17:7-17
The Mystery of the Beast

He has 10 horns
He has 10 horns
The ten horns are ten kings who will come from this kingdom.
The ten horns you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom

He has 7 heads

The seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits. They are also seven kings.
He has a blasphemous name
He looks like a leopard
He is full of names of blasphemy
His power comes from Satan
His throne comes from Satan
His authority comes from Satan

He will come up out of the Abyss [bottomless pit]
He was fatally wounded by a small sword [dagger]
His fatal wound was healed

He once was, now is not, and yet will come
Everyone is astonished
Everyone follows him
Everyone worships him except those with their names written in the Lamb's book of life

Everyone whose names have not been written in the book of life will be in wonder
He spoke proudly
He spoke blasphemously
He shall speak pompous words against the Most High
He is allowed authority for forty-two months [3 1/2 years]
The saints will be handed over to him for a time, times and half a time [3 1/2 years]
He is allowed to attack and conquer the saints
He shall persecute the saints of the Most High
He is given authority over everyone on earth
It crushed and devoured its victims and trampled underfoot whatever was left.

The Symbolic Description of the Beast from the Sea
1. He is a man
(Revelation 13:18 "calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man")
but he is energized from hell, where he came from
(Rev. 11:7 "ascends out of the bottomless pit")
(Rev. 17:8 "will ascend out of the bottomless pit and go to perdition")
2. Just as Jesus Christ is God manifested in the flesh, so, ‘the beast’ will be Satan manifested in a human body
(Rev 13:3 "The dragon [Satan] gave him his power, his throne, and great authority")
3. God does not see him as a man, but as a wild animal, under the control of Satan.

The Seven Heads

The seven heads represent seven mountains (Revelation 17:9); and since Rome was built on seven hills, this could be a veiled reference to that powerful city (see Revelation 17:18), especially remembering that the fourth beast in Daniel was the Roman Empire as the Bible and History prove.. It would have been a most meaningful allusion in John’s day!

The Ten Horns

The ten horns represent ten kingdoms (Daniel 7:24; Revelation 17:12). It appears that ‘the beast’ will head a ‘United States of Europe,’ possibly a revived Roman Empire, before taking over as the world dictator. All nations will no doubt admire and thank him for the ‘peace’ he has achieved, little realizing the sorrow and destruction he will bring to the world.

Socialistic Globalism & the Emergence of the Antichrist
1. In comprehending the emergence of the Antichrist it must be understood that the Book of Revelation reveals a governmental control of global economy where trade and commerce will ultimately not be possible without accepting the mark of the Beast.
2. In a manufacturing-based economy, goods and commodities can be taxed by traditional mechanisms of customs and excise.
3. In an information-based economy with massive multi-billion dollar daily electronic transfers of capital and information, such mechanisms can no longer work.
4. Third world debt default, a subprime lending fiasco in the USA, undervalued or overvalued currencies in Asia, national insolvencies in member states of the European Union – all have global ramifications for all markets in an increasingly integrated equation of world trade and finance.
5. Neither do David Rockefeller’s Tri-Lateralism, the elitist international Round Table, groups like the Bilderbergers, the old General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), the World Trade Organization (WTO), or the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in their present existing forms have the ability to prevent increasingly unpredictable global economic phenomena from spiraling out of control.
6. Empires – be they European, American, or Asian – can no longer be the singular dynamos driving the economic engine. The USA is the last of these and a fundamentally flawed federal Europe is failing to rival it.
7. The next attempt will be to find global solutions to global economic problems in a global economy. Because of Euro-socialism and America imitating it, however, nations will not actually seek economic solutions to economic problems, but rather they will see political ones.

The order of events:
First —  There will be a Wonder (Revelation 13:3)
1. Certainly a terrified world will wonder at Antichrist’s power and his sudden rise to international fame and authority.
2. But mankind will also wonder at the healing of his ‘wound.’ John does not explain it, but perhaps what he later wrote (Revelation 17:9-13) can help interpret the symbolism.
3. This ‘wound’ must be important, because John mentioned it three times (Revelation 13:3, 12, 14), including the fact that it was sword-inflicted.
Second —  The beast is one of the seven kings (Revelation 17:11)
4. But we find out that he is also the eighth. So apparently, he will reign twice; but how can this be?  A possible suggestion is that ‘the beast’ will be a European leader who will form a ten-nation federation (Revelation 17:12), but be slain in the process.
5. But we see through the Scriptures in Revelation 11:7 and Revelation 17:8 that this beast will ascend out of the abyss. Either through the power of reincarnation or some other way, only God knows for sure.
6. Is it possible that Satan will (with God’s permission) resurrect a man from the dead? Remember if Satan has the power to give life to a dead idol (Revelation 13:15), could he not also give life to a dead body?
Third —  There will be Worship (Revelation 13:4)
7. . Worship is the one thing Satan has always wanted (Matthew 4:8-10), and he will receive it through ‘the beast.’
8. The second ‘beast,’ described in the last half of this chapter, will organize and promote the worship of Antichrist, making it the official religion of the world!
Fourth —  There will be words (Revelation 13:5-6)
9. Almost all dictators have risen to power by controlling people with their words. Some of us can recall when Adolph Hitler was rising to power, and know now how he mesmerized huge crowds with his speeches.
10. Satan will make ‘the beast’ a great orator, whose addresses will blaspheme God, His name, His tabernacle, [in heaven] and the saints in heaven. Since Satan was cast out of heaven, this is to be expected.
11. Satan can do nothing without God’s permission (see Job 1:12; 2:6; Luke 22:31-32), so ‘the beasts’ authority is delegated, not inherent. It will last only for three-and-a half years, of the Tribulation.
Finally —  There will be war (Revelation 13:7-10)
12. God will permit Antichrist to war against His people (‘wear out the saints,’ Daniel 7:25) and even to defeat some of them.
13.  John prophesied that some of the saints will be captured and some will be martyred. But because of their faith, they will have patience, or endurance (see Hebrews 6:12; Revelation 1:9), and they will not deny the Lord in spite of persecution and death.
14. The world’s population will be divided:
a. Those who are saved, with their names written in the ‘book of life’, and will not submit to ‘the beast;’
b Those who are lost – the earth-dwellers – who will worship ‘the beast’ and do his bidding.

Note: Revelation 13:9 applies this truth to ‘any man,’ no matter in which age he may live. Certainly in John’s day, this was meaningful; for every Roman citizen had to acknowledge, ‘Caesar is Lord.’ Or die. Likewise in every age of the church, true believers have had to take their stand for Jesus Christ, come what may.

John 5:43
‘I am come in my Father’s name, and you receive me not; if another shall come in his own name, him you will receive.’

The Beast from the Earth  – The False Prophet

Revelation 13:11-18

(11)  Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. (12)  And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. (13)  He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. (14)  And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived. (15)  He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. (16)  He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, (17)  and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

(18)  Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666.

Revelation 13:11-18
The 2nd Beast (False Prophet)
Daniel 3:1-5
Nebuchadnezzar's Golden Image
He has two horns
His appearance is like a lamb
He speaks like a dragon
He has all the authority of the 1st beast
He exercises his authority on behalf of the 1st beast

He forces everyone on earth to worship the 1st beast

He performs great miracles while the people watch
His miracles allow him to deceive people everywhere
He performs his miracles when he is close to the 1st beast.
He forces men to build a statue of the 1st beast
He is given the ability to make the statue of the 1st beast come alive and murder any who refuse to worship the  image
He forces everyone to be stamped on their right hands or foreheads with the name (mark) of the 1st beast in order to buy or sell

At the sound of the symphony all the people, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped the gold image
Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace

The Symbolic Description of the Beast from the Earth
1. One of the ministries of the Holy Spirit is to glorify Jesus Christ and to lead people to trust and worship Him (John 16:7-15)

Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment:...when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. ... He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.

2. The false prophet will try to take the place of the Holy spirit and point to Antichrist and his image and compel people to worship Satan through ‘the beast.’
3. The image of the horns (Revelation 13:11) suggests that the false prophet has authority, but the absence of a crown indicates that his authority is not political.
4. Our Lord Jesus warned that there would be false prophets (Matthew 24:11, 24), and this one will be the greatest.
5. He will have the ‘character’ of a lamb but the voice of the dragon. What a deceiver he will be – and the entire world will listen to him!
6. When Jesus Christ ministered on earth, Jewish leaders often asked Him to perform some sign to prove that He was indeed their Messiah; and Jesus refused.

If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a miraculous sign or wonder, and if the sign or wonder of which he has spoken takes place, and he says, "Let us follow other gods" (gods you have not known) "and let us worship them," you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The Lord your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul.

7. But the false prophet will perform deceptive signs that will lead the world into devil-worship

2 Thessalonians 2:9
The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders

The Mark = The Name of the Beast  = The Number of the Name = Six Hundred Sixty Six [666]

In the ancient world the letters of the alphabet were used for numbers in both Hebrew and Greek.

Bible students have been attempting for years to unravel the mystery of this name and number.

The Jewish New Testament Commentary points out:
Who is the beast?
Certain forms of the name of the Roman Emperor Nero have that number; moreover, a first-century cult expected him to be resurrected after his death in 68 C.E.
[This number represents the Aramaic letters, which spell our Nero Caesar, namely 50, 200, 6, 50, 100, 60 and 200]
Napoleon and other historical figures have been suggested.
Moreover, if one uses other languages and manipulates the numerical correspondences, then, as George E. Ladd writes, “Almost anything can be done with these numbers....
If A = 100, B = 101, C = 102, etc., the name Hitler totals 666.”
Thus wisdom is needed, so that one will remain alert but not be misled.
The number could be entirely symbolic.
The name of Messiah in Greek, I¢sous [Jesus], equals 888;
7 is regarded as the perfect number; and triple repetition symbolizes absolute ultimacy (as in Isaiah 6:3, “Holy, holy, holy is Adonai of Hosts.”).
Therefore 888 means that Yeshua is absolutely and ultimately beyond perfection, while 666 means that the beast in every respect falls short of perfection and is therefore absolutely and ultimately imperfect and evil.

Until that day and that final false messiah (the beast from the sea) and that final false prophet (the beast from the earth) comes, each generation has its false prophets and false messiahs.

Matthew 24:11
Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.     (NKJV)

Mark 13:21-22
"Then if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ! [Messiah]' or, 'Look, He is there!' do not believe it. For false christs [messiahs] and false prophets will rise and show signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.     (NKJV)
